Cleveland Guardians fans will have to wait a little longer to see Manager Stephen Vogt back in the dugout. The two-time American League Manager of the Year is sitting out his second consecutive game Monday night due to a viral infection, as the Guardians open a three-game home series against the Los Angeles Angels.
Stepping in for Vogt once again is bench coach Tony Arnerich—who also happens to be Vogt's housemate in Cleveland. Arnerich managed the club through a narrow 5-4 loss to the Minnesota Twins on Sunday and is ready for another turn at the helm. With a touch of humor, Arnerich noted, "He is on the second floor, and I'm in the basement. If we lose again, I might be out on the lawn."
The good news for Guardians faithful? Vogt is reportedly feeling better and is expected to return to the dugout by Tuesday night. In his absence, the team will look to bounce back against the Angels and keep their season on track.
Vogt, who took home AL Manager of the Year honors in both 2024 and 2025—his first two seasons as a big-league skipper—has quickly become a cornerstone of the franchise. His leadership and energy have been missed, but with Arnerich holding down the fort (and the basement), the Guardians are in capable hands until their manager is back to full health.
