The Carolina Panthers have their eyes set on the future, and despite a recent draft pick that might raise eyebrows, General Manager Dan Morgan is making it clear: the team hasn't abandoned hope for wide receiver Xavier Legette.
During a recent appearance on WFNZ's The Kyle Bailey Show, Morgan addressed the buzz surrounding the Panthers' 2026 NFL Draft class. On Day 2, the team selected Tennessee receiver Chris Brazzell II in the third round—a dynamic playmaker who could push for snaps alongside projected starters Tetairoa McMillan and Jalen Coker. Naturally, that move sparked questions about where Legette, a 2024 first-round pick, fits into the equation.
"Xavier's putting the work in, his body looks great, he's in great shape right now, and we're excited about him," Morgan said confidently. "Sometimes, it takes guys a little time to develop and get an understanding of what it takes to play at a high level in the NFL. I think Xavier will figure that out. We definitely still have a lot of belief in him."
That belief, however, was tested down the stretch of the 2025 season. Legette saw his snap share dwindle over the Panthers' final four games, struggling with consistency in his first two campaigns. Drops and issues with spatial awareness plagued his performance, and he managed to top 39 receiving yards in just two of 16 outings. For a first-round talent, the growing pains have been real.
Enter Brazzell, a second-team All-SEC selection who brings a blend of speed and size (6-foot-4, 198 pounds) that could make an immediate impact. He hauled in 62 catches for 1,017 yards and a conference-leading nine touchdowns for the Volunteers last season, giving the Panthers' offense another legitimate weapon.
For Legette, the path forward is clear: development is a process, and the Panthers are willing to be patient. Whether he can translate that potential into production remains one of the most intriguing storylines heading into the 2026 season.
