What a game Jung Hoo Lee had on Sunday as the San Francisco Giants managed to rally from behind and beat the Miami Marlins 6-3 at Oracle Park.
Lee finished with four hits in the ballgame, a definite statement from him at the plate.
While watching Lee play on the field on Sunday, Giants manager Tony Vitello was quite impressed with what he saw. Lee went 4-for-5 in the game.
“I’ve kind of been saying over and over again, ‘It’s Jung Hoo just being Jung Hoo,’” Vitello said, according to Giants reporter Maria Guardado of MLB.com. “But today (Sunday) was a pretty dang good day.
"Overall, it’s been inspiring," Vitello continued. "he guy plays the game the right way. His at-bats have been competitive. He’s always helping out on defense. He’s been electric, hitting balls all over the park. We’ve been looking for kind of that consistent sparkplug.”
Lee has been charting a very successful course over the past 15 games.
Check out these numbers: He's got a slash line of .439/.467/.667 in those 15 games. Lee also has eight extra-base hits and five RBIs in that timespan, too.
Lee definitely appears to be quite happy with his performance recently for the Giants.
"In Spring Training, you have all those times to prepare for the regular season," Lee said through his interpreter. "I feel like maybe in the beginning of the season, it didn't come out, my preparation that I put in, the effort that I put in. But I feel like now it's coming out performance-wise. I’ve got to give credit to the hitting coaches."
Keep your eyes on Lee in the coming days and weeks. If he can continue to perform at a high level, then Lee might be one of the best stories this season.
The Giants enjoyed a day off on Monday, but business picks up again on Tuesday.
San Francisco heads east for a three-game series at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia against Kyle Schwarber, Bryce Harper, and the Philadelphia Phillies.
After that series ends on Thursday afternoon, the Giants will head to South Florida for a three-game weekend series against the Miami Marlins.
