Former Georgia Bulldogs safety JaCorey Thomas is getting a second chance to prove himself at the professional level. After going undrafted in the 2026 NFL Draft, the hard-hitting defensive back has accepted a rookie minicamp invitation from the Carolina Panthers, as reported by Justin Melo of NFL Draft on SI.
This opportunity could bring a familiar face to the Panthers' locker room. Thomas might reunite with former Georgia teammate Monroe Freeling, who was selected by Carolina with the 19th overall pick in the draft. The Panthers also boast another Bulldog connection in running back Trevor Etienne, making Charlotte a potential hub for Georgia talent.
Standing at 6-foot and weighing 205 pounds, Thomas formed a formidable safety duo with KJ Bolden during his final season in Athens. His 2025 campaign was highlighted by 45 tackles, a tackle for loss, and a memorable nine-yard sack against Alabama in the SEC Championship game—a performance that showcased his versatility and big-game mentality.
Over 47 games with the Bulldogs, Thomas compiled 63 tackles, a sack, two pass breakups, and a tackle for loss. More importantly, he contributed to Georgia's 2022 national championship run, recording a tackle in the title game. That championship pedigree is exactly what NFL teams look for in undrafted free agents hoping to make a roster.
Thomas wasn't the only Georgia defensive back entering the 2026 draft. Former cornerback Daylen Everette was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the third round, highlighting the continued pipeline of Bulldogs talent to the NFL.
Now, Thomas will aim to carve out a role in a Panthers secondary that currently features starter Tre'von Moehrig at strong safety. Carolina also added Texas A&M corner Will Lee III in the fourth round and Penn State safety Zakee Wheatley in the fifth round, creating a competitive environment for Thomas to prove his worth during minicamp.
For Bulldogs fans and NFL hopefuls alike, this is another reminder that the draft is just the beginning—hard work and determination can still open doors to the league.
