San Francisco's lowly batting lineup remains in a collective funk.

Frustration boiled over for Rafael Devers in the second inning Wednesday night. After striking out in a seven-pitch battle, the San Francisco Giants' star slugger slammed his bat to the ground, snapping the handle—a visceral symbol of a lineup stuck in a deep, collective slump.

The Giants' offensive woes are more than just a bad week; they're a defining characteristic of their season so far. Through 18 games, the team ranks at or near the bottom of the National League in almost every major offensive category: last in slugging (.292), last in OPS (.561), and second-to-last in on-base percentage (.269). This has translated to a league-worst 52 runs scored and a troubling minus-27 run differential.

This isn't a new problem. The struggles began immediately, as the Giants were shut out for their first 20 innings of the regular season, matching a franchise record. They've already been blanked three times, putting immense pressure on a pitching staff that can't afford any margin for error.

Despite the bleak numbers, there's belief in the clubhouse. Veteran shortstop Willie Adames pointed to the proven power in the heart of the order, featuring Devers, Matt Chapman, and Heliot Ramos. "We have a ton of guys that have power on this team," Adames said, expressing confidence that the tide will turn.

Under manager Tony Vitello, the organization's philosophy emphasizes contact and controlling the strike zone. While they've managed a middle-of-the-pack .242 team average, it hasn't translated into crossing the plate. For a team with postseason aspirations, unlocking its run production is the most urgent puzzle to solve. The broken bats and visible frustration will continue until they find the answer.
