Mets right-hander Freddy Peralta knew exactly what he’d be facing heading into Wednesday's outing in a cold Colorado, and he tried to stay as prepared as possible.

Freddy Peralta knew exactly what he was walking into. The Mets right-hander had done his homework before Wednesday's start in Colorado, where biting cold and swirling winds made Coors Field feel more like a frozen tundra than a baseball diamond. But for Peralta, being prepared meant staying loose—literally.

"It was crazy weather," Peralta said after the game. "I knew what I was facing, though. I knew it was going to be a little crazy, so between innings I was riding a bike to keep myself warm and ready to go."

That grit paid off. Peralta battled through five scoreless innings, grinding out 91 pitches while holding the Rockies to just four hits and two walks. It wasn't the flashiest outing—he struck out only one batter—but it was exactly what the Mets needed, especially after a brutal stretch of play.

"I think it was good," Peralta said. "I was hoping to get into the sixth inning, but it was crazy—my pitch count was a little high, but other than that I thought it was pretty good."

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza praised Peralta's toughness. "He found a way," Mendoza said. "On a day where they put fouled off tough pitches and put together good at-bats, he gave us five and kept us in the game—he attacked even when he got behind, so it was a good outing."

The win was Peralta's first since Opening Day against the Pirates, a drought that even surprised his catcher. "It feels really good," Peralta said. "It's funny because [Luis] Torrens was just asking me like 'how long have you been pitching without a win?' And I told him it was Opening Day and he was surprised—me too."

With the victory, New York has suddenly found its footing, winning three straight games and locking up back-to-back series to open the road trip. For Peralta, this is the Mets team he always believed in. "This is what I expected," he said. "This is who we are, we have to keep it that way."
