The New York Knicks may be facing a significant setback as star wing OG Anunoby could be sidelined "for a while" after suffering a potential right hamstring injury during Game 2 of their playoff series against the Philadelphia 76ers. ESPN NBA analyst Brian Windhorst shared the concerning update on Thursday's "Get Up," noting that Anunoby will "almost certainly get into an MRI machine today" to determine the severity of the injury.
Anunoby exited the Knicks' 108-102 victory in the fourth quarter with about 2½ minutes remaining, after posting an impressive 24 points and 5 rebounds. The injury comes with added concern given that Anunoby missed three weeks earlier this season with a left hamstring issue. Knicks coach Mike Brown told reporters after the game, "He looked like he was hopping, but I have not talked to medical yet."
Anunoby has been one of New York's most impactful players during their five-game playoff winning streak, helping the team seize a commanding 2-0 series lead over the Sixers. His two-way versatility and scoring punch have been crucial to the Knicks' postseason success.
Windhorst emphasized that if Anunoby misses extended time, Karl-Anthony Towns must step up in a major way—and avoid foul trouble. "Karl Towns, you gotta stop fouling," Windhorst said. "He had a brilliant game last night, 20, 10 and 7 [while battling foul trouble]. His statistics are beautiful. If the Knicks are going to keep going, especially without OG Anunoby, he has got to stop fouling."
The timing couldn't be more critical. Joel Embiid is expected to return for the Sixers in Friday's Game 3 in Philadelphia, and the home crowd will provide an extra boost. The Knicks will need every available weapon—and a disciplined performance from Towns—to maintain their momentum without one of their key stars.
