Even a former President can't resist the drama of NBA contract negotiations. When Steve Kerr found himself fielding questions about the Golden State Warriors' roster, the most unexpected voice chimed in: Barack Obama.

At a dinner party last summer, the 44th President of the United States—a well-known basketball enthusiast—didn't waste any time getting down to business. According to ESPN's Wright Thompson, Obama turned to Kerr with a direct question that was on many fans' minds: "Coach, what's going to happen with Kuminga?"

The question came before forward Jonathan Kuminga, the No. 7 overall pick in the 2021 draft, ended his contract standoff with the Warriors' front office by signing a two-year, $46.8 million deal. But the story didn't end there.

After averaging 12.1 points through his first 20 games of the season, Kuminga was traded to the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for former NBA champion Kristaps Porzingis. The move was meant to shake things up for both sides, but neither player proved to be the game-changer their new teams had hoped for.

The Warriors ultimately missed the playoffs, while Atlanta managed to secure the No. 6 seed in the Eastern Conference before falling to the New York Knicks in the first round. It's a reminder that even with a presidential endorsement, roster moves don't always go according to plan.
