The Indiana Hoosiers just made a major splash in the transfer portal, and it's a move that has the college basketball world buzzing. Former Notre Dame guard Markus Burton, a two-time All-ACC standout, has officially joined second-year head coach Darian DeVries in Bloomington. For Hoosier fans, this is the kind of pickup that can change the trajectory of a season.

Standing at just 5-foot-11, Burton might not be the biggest player on the court, but his impact is undeniable. He's one of two top-25 transfers DeVries has secured this cycle, and for good reason. Despite being limited to just 10 games last season due to a left ankle injury, Burton averaged an impressive 18.5 points, 3.7 assists, and 1.6 steals per game while shooting nearly 49% from the field. When healthy, he's a force to be reckoned with.

Burton's résumé is nothing short of stellar. He finished his Notre Dame career with 1,315 points, 259 assists, and 123 steals in 69 games, posting career averages of 19.1 points and 3.8 assists. In the 2024-25 season, he was a second-team All-ACC selection and led the conference in scoring at 23.5 points per game. His rookie campaign in 2023-24 was equally impressive, earning him ACC Rookie of the Year honors after averaging 17.5 points and 4.3 assists.

A hometown hero from Mishawaka, Indiana, Burton was named the 2023 IndyStar Indiana Mr. Basketball after scoring 2,273 career points at Penn High School—good for 20th all-time in state history. Now, he's returning to his home state to suit up for the Hoosiers, adding a layer of local pride to an already exciting storyline.

Burton is the sixth transfer to join Indiana this offseason, rounding out a talented class that includes Duke's Darren Harris, Villanova's Bryce Lindsey, Georgia Tech's Jaeden Mustaf, Alabama's Aiden Sherrill, and SMU's Samet Yigitoglu. With this kind of depth and firepower, the Hoosiers are shaping up to be a team to watch in the Big Ten and beyond.
