Kaleb Oldham isn't just stepping into a new job—he's calling it a "dream come true." On Monday, the 32-year-old former Fishers assistant was officially named the new boys basketball head coach at Danville High School, marking his first head coaching position. And for Oldham, this is exactly where he wants to be.
Oldham spent the last six seasons as an assistant with the Fishers Tigers, helping the program reach incredible heights. Under his guidance, the Tigers captured a Class 4A state championship in 2023-24 and posted a remarkable 83-3 record over the last three seasons. He was part of head coach Garrett Winegar's staff since 2020, learning from a coach he believes "is destined to be a Division I coach very soon."
Now, Oldham takes the reins at Danville, a program with a proud basketball tradition. For 26 seasons, Brian Barber built a powerhouse, racking up 426 wins before stepping down last year. His former assistant, Mark Artman, led the Warriors to a 10-15 record in 2023-24. Oldham is eager to build on that foundation.
"I'm super excited to become the next head coach at Danville," Oldham said. "I can't thank our principal Matt Clodfelter and athletic director Aimee Harvey and the sectional committee enough for their belief in me. Along with that, I can't thank my wife Victoria enough—she's the epitome of what a coach's wife is, she's a rockstar. It's rare as a 32-year-old to get your dream job as your first job, but that's exactly what happened here. Danville has a rich history under Brian Barber for all those years he was here. I hope to be able to replicate those type of seasons."
Oldham won't be starting from scratch. Three of Danville's top five scorers are expected to return: junior guards Carter Ward (11.6 points, 3.9 assists per game) and Jacob Fultz (7.1 ppg), along with sophomore forward Esaias Ennin (7.4 ppg, 4.3 rebounds). That's a solid core for a first-year head coach to work with.
Before his time at Fishers, Oldham also coached on the Southport staff. He called his experience with the Tigers "completely life changing" and credited the players—Jeffrey Simmons, Charlie Smith, Keenan Garner, JonAnthony Hall, Justin Kirby, Jason Gardner Jr., and Cooper Zachary—for the program's success. "Everything is a credit to those guys leading us to the success we had at Fishers," he said.
Oldham's hiring was approved by the Danville school board on Monday night. For a young coach with a championship pedigree, this is more than a first job—it's the start of something special.
