Texas A&M's men's basketball program, fresh off a successful first season under head coach Bucky McMillan, is making serious waves in the transfer portal. After securing a key commitment from former Kansas State guard PJ Haggerty, the Aggies are now setting their sights on bolstering their frontcourt with a major addition.
The latest big name on their radar is Moustapha Thiam, a 7'2" center transferring from Cincinnati. Thiam, who averaged 12.8 points and 7.1 rebounds on 52% shooting last season, would bring a dominant interior presence to College Station. Analyst Jeff Goodman notes Thiam projects as an immediate starter in McMillan's system, which heavily utilized the portal to build last year's NCAA Tournament team.
Landing Thiam won't be easy, as he's reportedly considering a who's who of college basketball blue bloods, including UConn, Duke, Kansas, and Gonzaga. However, the Aggies' recent success and clear need for size make them a compelling destination. With returning big man Jamie Vinson and the high-powered scoring of Haggerty and Mackenzie Mgbako, adding a player of Thiam's caliber could transform Texas A&M into a serious SEC contender next season.
