The 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs have delivered another round of high drama, and for a trio of familiar faces from Vancouver, the dream run has come to an abrupt end. Former Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet, defenseman Noah Juulsen, and the Philadelphia Flyers were swept out of the Division Finals by the Carolina Hurricanes, a team featuring another ex-Canuck, Jalen Chatfield.

Tocchet, who famously guided Vancouver to a thrilling Game 7 in the second round of the 2024 playoffs, worked similar magic in his first season behind the Flyers' bench. Philadelphia fought hard to reach the second round, but found themselves outmatched by a relentless Carolina squad. The series finale was a heartbreaker for Flyers fans, as Hurricanes forward Jackson Blake netted the overtime winner to seal a 3-2 victory and complete the sweep.

For Juulsen, who spent four seasons in a Canucks uniform, this postseason was a mix of opportunity and quiet moments. After registering two assists in a critical Game 3 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins in the first round, he saw limited action in the second round, dressing for just one game against Carolina.

On the other side of the ice, Chatfield and the Hurricanes are celebrating a ticket to the Eastern Conference Final—their fourth trip in eight years and third in the last four. Despite their recent dominance, Carolina is still chasing their first Stanley Cup Final appearance since hoisting the trophy in 2006. They'll now await the winner of the Montreal Canadiens vs. Buffalo Sabres series, which is currently tied 1-1.

Whether you’re cheering for the underdog or just love playoff hockey, one thing is clear: the connections to Vancouver run deep in this year's postseason, and the action is only heating up.
