In a move that strengthens the Oregon Ducks' rebuilding efforts, former Arizona Wildcats forward Dwayne Aristode has committed to the program, bringing his versatile game to the Pacific Northwest. The announcement came Thursday, with the 6-foot-8 wing still holding three years of eligibility.
Aristode, a native of the Netherlands, appeared in 35 games as a freshman for Arizona, averaging 3.8 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 0.7 assists over 13.2 minutes per contest. While he showed flashes of potential, a mid-season illness disrupted his rhythm during Big 12 play, limiting his impact down the stretch. He saw only sparing minutes in the NCAA Tournament as a result.
Three of his best performances came against mid-major opponents in non-conference action, where he reached double figures in scoring. But it's his defensive potential that truly stands out. With a long wingspan and quick instincts, Aristode is built to thrive in Oregon's system, where defensive versatility is key.
The Ducks are coming off a challenging 12-20 season, including a 5-15 mark in their first year in the Big Ten. Head coach Dana Altman, known for his consistency, suffered his first losing season since 1995-96, when he was at Creighton. Oregon has missed the NCAA Tournament in three of the last five years, making Aristode's arrival a welcome boost as the program looks to return to prominence.
Aristode becomes the second Arizona transfer to find a new home this offseason, joining Sidi Gueye, who committed to Santa Clara. So far, they are the only Wildcats to enter the transfer portal.
