The Las Vegas Raiders entered the 2026 NFL Draft with a clear mission: rebuild into a competitive force under the leadership of general manager John Spytek and head coach Klint Kubiak. Over three days, the duo selected 10 prospects to inject life into a Silver & Black roster that desperately needed a spark. While every pick carried weight, one Day 2 selection stands out as a potential game-changer—and it’s my personal favorite of the entire draft class.
Running back was an obvious area of need for the Raiders. Behind star tailback Ashton Jeanty, the depth chart featured only unproven commodities in Dylan Laube and Chris Collier. That made addressing the position a top priority. Las Vegas did just that by trading up in the fourth round to snag Arkansas’ Mike Washington Jr. with the 122nd overall pick—a move that could pay dividends for years to come.
Washington isn’t just a scheme fit for Kubiak’s offense; he’s a perfect one. At 6-foot-1 and 223 pounds, with a blazing 4.33-second 40-yard dash, the New York native combines power with elite speed. Coming off a stellar senior season—1,070 rushing yards and eight touchdowns on 167 carries, plus 28 receptions for 226 yards and another score—he’s the kind of dual-threat weapon that keeps defenses guessing. Over his five-year college career (2021-2025), Washington amassed 2,914 rushing yards, 26 touchdowns, and 470 receiving yards, proving his consistency and durability across 51 games.
What makes Washington such a compelling fit for the Raiders is his ability to thrive in Kubiak’s wide zone run game—a Shanahan-style system that emphasizes horizontal stretching to create vertical lanes. Washington has the burst to reach the edge on outside zone runs, the vision to cut back against the grain, and the one-cut ability to plant and accelerate through holes. He’s a home-run hitter who complements Jeanty perfectly, giving Las Vegas a dynamic one-two punch in the backfield.
For a team looking to build a sustainable identity, Mike Washington Jr. is more than just a Day 2 pick—he’s a gem. And for Raiders fans, he’s a reason to be excited about the future.
