Avon High School's wrestling program is entering an exciting new chapter. The school announced Monday that Jacob Aven, the former head coach at Lawrence North, has been named the Orioles' new head wrestling coach.
"I am honored to join Avon High School and contribute to such a proud wrestling tradition," Aven said in a statement. "I look forward to building strong relationships with our student-athletes, families, and community while continuing to grow the program on and off the mat."
Aven brings a strong blend of coaching experience and personal wrestling pedigree to his new role. Over the past seven seasons, he built Lawrence North into a competitive program, earning a reputation as a tireless worker and dedicated mentor. Before stepping into the coaching ranks, Aven was a standout wrestler at Zionsville High School before competing collegiately at Purdue. There, he earned Academic All-Big Ten honors for four consecutive seasons and capped his career with an appearance at the 2019 NCAA Wrestling Championships.
"Coach Aven brings a wealth of experience and a reputation for excellence to the Orioles," said Avon athletic director Jason Young. "During his time at Lawrence North, he established himself as a tireless worker and a dedicated mentor. We are excited about the leadership and vision he brings to our wrestling program."
Aven takes over for former Avon coach Alex Johns, who resigned after five highly successful seasons. Under Johns' guidance, the Orioles produced 24 state finalists and multiple state champions, setting a high bar for the program's continued success.
Now, with Aven at the helm, Avon wrestling is poised to build on that legacy while forging its own identity. For fans of the sport, this move signals a commitment to excellence—both on the mat and in the community. Whether you're a longtime supporter or new to the Orioles' wrestling scene, this is a program worth watching.
