Stephen A. Smith did not hold back when reacting to Skip Bayless’ latest all-time ranking, making it clear that even he could not defend what he called an outrageous take on LeBron James.

Stephen A. Smith has seen a lot of wild takes in his time, but even he couldn't believe his ears when Skip Bayless dropped his latest all-time NBA ranking—one that placed LeBron James all the way down at No. 9.

The long-running rivalry between these two ESPN heavyweights flared up again, and this time, Smith's reaction wasn't just about disagreement. It was pure disbelief. Speaking on Stephen A.'s Straight Shooter Show, the outspoken analyst let loose on Bayless for what he called an "outrageous" slight against one of the game's greatest players.

"I've got LeBron No. 2 all time," Smith said. "This mad man known as Skip Bayless—that's right, I'm calling him a mad man for the purposes of this subject matter—he's got LeBron at No. 9. At No. 9!"

Smith went on to rattle off the names Bayless placed ahead of LeBron: Magic Johnson, Shaquille O'Neal, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Tim Duncan, Kobe Bryant, and Larry Bird. "I'm like, come on man, come on man. Skip Bayless done lost his d___ mind. It's ridiculous."

For context, the GOAT debate has always been a battlefield, but Bayless's take stands out even among the most controversial rankings. While most analysts and fans place LeBron in the top three—often alongside Michael Jordan and Kareem—Bayless has long argued that LeBron's legacy is about more than numbers.

His reasoning? "Clutch gene." Bayless has repeatedly claimed that the players ahead of LeBron are "cold-blooded killers" in high-pressure moments, pointing to LeBron's NBA Finals record and free-throw shooting in crunch time as evidence. He's questioned LeBron's late-game decision-making, even while acknowledging his incredible longevity and statistical dominance.

But for Smith, that argument doesn't hold water. "I've got him at No. 2, and I'm not budging," Smith said. "To put him at No. 9 is just... it's madness."

Whether you side with Smith or Bayless, one thing is clear: the debate over LeBron's place in NBA history isn't going away anytime soon. And if you're looking to rep your all-time favorite, a fresh jersey or hoodie might be just what you need to settle the score—at least in your own living room.
