Scouting AFC South draft classes

When it comes to gearing up for the season, knowing your competition is just as important as perfecting your own game plan. This year's AFC South draft classes have injected fresh talent into the division, and we're breaking down each haul to see who's bringing the heat—and who might be wearing your favorite team's colors come fall.

Let's start with the Indianapolis Colts, who turned heads despite not having a first-round pick. They might have been the draft's biggest steal artists, snagging two players we had our eyes on for Houston: safety A.J. Haulcy and running back Seth McGowan. But they didn't stop there. The Colts completely revamped their linebacker corps with the elite duo of CJ Allen and Bryce Boettcher—a move that should have AFC South offensive coordinators nervous. Seventh-round wide receiver Deion Burks is a burner who could torch defenses down the sideline, and guard Jalen Farmer brings a nasty streak in the run game with the widest frame in the class. To round it out, they added defensive ends George Gumbs Jr. and Caden Curry in the later rounds. It's the kind of depth that wins games in December.

Over in Tennessee, the Titans made a splash by trading up for linebacker Anthony Hill Jr., snatching him right after Houston selected Marlin Klein. Hill was a top target for us, so you know he's got game. But beyond that, the class lacks some sparkle. Guard Carmona Jr. struggled during Senior Bowl practices and profiles as a lumbering interior lineman, while running back Singleton is athletic but limited. This class is defined by big swings: cornerback Faulk, Hill Jr., and Singleton are all developmental projects with high ceilings. Faulk, the youngest player in the draft, is a blank canvas with immense potential—though his fit in Tennessee's 4-3 front remains a question mark. Tate, their top-five pick, stands out as the most well-rounded prospect, which is exactly what you'd expect from such an early selection.

For the Houston Texans, watching an opponent's draft class come together better than your own is a tough pill to swallow. The Colts' haul, in particular, stings—they landed two of our "my guys" and completely rebuilt their linebacker room. But that's the beauty of the AFC South: every team is looking for an edge, and the draft is where those edges are forged. Whether you're stocking up on game-day gear or scouting the next big thing, keep an eye on these rookies—they'll be making plays on Sundays sooner than you think.
