East Limestone High School is ushering in a new era of football, announcing Juwan Simpson as its next head coach. The Limestone County Board of Education approved the hire on Tuesday, May 13, bringing a wealth of experience—from the SEC to the CFL—to the sidelines.
Simpson, a standout linebacker at Austin High School (1998-2001) and the University of Alabama (2002-2006), knows what it takes to compete at the highest level. After college, he signed with the Green Bay Packers in 2007 before embarking on an impressive eight-year career with the Calgary Stampeders in the Canadian Football League.
Following his playing days, Simpson transitioned seamlessly into coaching, with stops including the Stampeders, Austin High, James Clemens, Westminster Christian Academy, and most recently East Mississippi Community College. His journey has been marked by a commitment to developing young athletes both on and off the field.
Simpson takes over a program that is looking to turn the page. He replaces Will Johnson, who stepped down after two seasons with a 2-18 record. The challenge is clear, but Simpson's pedigree suggests he's ready to rebuild. Interestingly, he was originally named head coach at Hazel Green in December, but this new opportunity at East Limestone proved too compelling to pass up.
Now, as the 12th head coach in East Limestone history, Simpson brings a blend of championship experience and a deep understanding of Alabama high school football. For a program seeking stability and success, his hire signals a fresh start—and a chance to write a new chapter.
