The Baltimore Ravens didn’t just add a minicamp body. They may have opened the door to a leaguewide scramble. After inviting Diego Pavia to their rookie minicamp, it immediately raised eyebrows. Gaining the public endorsement of Deion Sanders only reinforced that.

This isn't because Pavia lacked production. It's more so because of how much of it he had. A Heisman Trophy finalist and eventual runner-up, he helped transform the Vanderbilt Commodores into a winner. That says something.

A resume like that one figures to move the meter and help a prospect generate some interest on the back end, and that's exactly what’s happening now. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Ravens may not have exclusive access to Pavia for long. Teams across the league are monitoring the situation closely, and if Baltimore chooses not to sign him after minicamp, others are expected to step in quickly.

Baltimore now has to decide whether Pavia is worth securing immediately or risking losing him to a team willing to move faster, and while minicamp invites are typically no-strings-attached evaluations, this one carries a little more weight.

Pavia is hard to ignore. He's an intriguing discussion piece. He was one of the most productive quarterbacks in college football, combining efficiency, toughness, and playmaking ability to elevate a program that rarely gets national recognition. His competitive fire is obvious. Sometimes, that works for him and against him. His ability to extend plays gives him a unique edge, but the concerns are just as clear. At 5-foot-10, he doesn’t fit the traditional mold. His decision-making can be uneven, and projecting his play style to the NFL level comes with questions. That’s why he slipped through the draft. Still, traits like his don’t go unnoticed for long. For the Ravens, this weekend is about evaluation.

So as the rest of the league watches, they no doubt see this as an opportunity. Baltimore may not get a second chance to make him theirs if a decision is made to pivot, and in a league always searching for quarterback depth, that kind of upside rarely sits on the market for long. The Ravens brought him in for a look. Now they have to decide how much they liked what they saw. The answer will determine whether the evaluation continues in another city.
