Did Ravens draft Derrick Henry replacement? originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
One of the many storylines to come out of the NFL Draft is which players are seen as replacements for those already on a roster, and for the Baltimore Ravens, this is exactly what has happened.
Clemson running back Adam Randall was selected in the fifth-round, so he isn't exactly set to push Derrick Henry in 2026...but what about beyond?
A former receiver, Randall, coming off the best season of his college career (814 yards, 10 TDs, plus 254 receiving yards, 3 TDs), comes to the Ravens looking to make a name for himself.
And for general manager Eric DeCosta, he likes everything about Randall.
"Adam's a guy as a former wideout. He has a varied skillset," DeCosta said. "He does a lot of different things well. We think the best is yet to come with him as a running back. He has really good hands. He can run routes. He's a possible kick returner -- a special teams guy. He has a great body and good measurables, and we're excited to see what he can do. He's kind of a 'jackknife.' He's a phenomenal kid. We think [he's] one of the best makeups in this draft."

Certainly not for the next couple of seasons as King Henry is still rumbling along at an elite pace, but as we know with running backs, their shelf life isn't as long as other positions.
So maybe the Ravens look at the Randall selection as a dart throw, thinking he could be the next in line when Henry retires. Granted, for a fifth-round pick to become a starter isn't likely, but one thing the Ravens know how to do is to develop running backs.
This will be a key watch over the offseason in Baltimore, as Randall is behind Henry, Justice Hill, and Rasheen Ali on the depth chart.
Still, the NFL is an unpredictable beast, and if Randall shows something in training camp, maybe, just maybe, he might see the field in 2026.
