After a breakout 2024 season in Detroit, the Lions underperformed in 2025, ending the season 9-8.
There is one bright side to missing the playoffs, however, and this is the time of year for it, with the Lions' record moving them up to No. 17 in the draft order.
Some holes appeared in the Lions' armor last year and now, in the offseason, there are specific roles that they look to fill. What better opportunity than the NFL Draft to grab some fresh young talent.
The Sporting News is tracking each of the Lions' 2026 NFL Draft selections, from the first through the seventh round.
The Lions will select 9 players in the 2026 NFL Draft:
NFL DRAFT RANKINGS 2026:QBs | WRs | TEs | EDGE | RBs
Offensive line: This remains the number one need for the Lions, similar to last year's draft. The Lions took two offensive guards in their first four picks, but are likely to look toward an offensive tackle this year. Don't be surprised if they take one as early as the first round.
Pass rush: Once again, the Lions are in need of help with the pass rush. Last year's first-rounder Tyleik Williams helped, but look for the Lions to target an edge rusher early on.
Mid-late round offensive backups: As the later rounds roll in, the Lions could look for some picks to back up their receivers. A late-round WR or TE selection could help the Lions ensure better depth for any potential injuries during the season.
Here's a look at who the Lions may select, based on the seven-round mock draft from SN's Vinnie Iyer.
The NFL Draft begins Thursday, April 23, at 8 p.m. ET.
