So just the series win for the Braves, then.

The Chicago Cubs had other plans than being swept by the Atlanta Braves, shutting them out 2-0 to salvage the series finale. While the Braves have built a reputation for clutch hitting in the late innings, it was the Cubs who delivered the decisive blows when it mattered most.

Chris Sale turned in a solid six-inning outing for Atlanta, striking out eight batters and expertly navigating through early trouble. The veteran lefty looked every bit like the ace he's been throughout his career, keeping the Cubs off balance for most of the night. However, the sixth inning proved to be his undoing. After walking Ian Happ to lead off the frame, a potential double-play grounder turned into a costly error when Ha-Seong Kim's flip to second base sailed into the outfield. Matt Shaw made the Braves pay immediately with a productive groundout that scored Happ and gave Chicago a 1-0 lead.

On the other side, Cubs starter Ben Brown was equally impressive despite being on a strict 65-pitch limit. Over his abbreviated outing, Brown allowed just one hit and one walk, keeping Braves hitters off balance and unable to mount any serious threat. When he departed, Chicago's bullpen took over with authority. Hoby Milner delivered two clean innings, and Phil Maton followed with a scoreless frame of his own, keeping Atlanta's bats silent.

The Cubs added an insurance run in the eighth inning, but with the way their pitching staff was dealing, it felt like a luxury they didn't need. For Braves fans, this one stings a bit more knowing their team had a chance to complete the sweep but couldn't find the timely hitting that has become their trademark. Instead, it was Chicago who walked away with the momentum and a much-needed victory to close out the series.
