Como are setting their sights on a major summer move for Juventus star Andrea Cambiaso, as Cesc Fabregas's ambitious side looks to boost their Italian contingent ahead of a historic European debut.
With Como already guaranteed at least sixth place in Serie A this season, they've confirmed their spot in European competition for 2026-27. Whether that ends up being the Champions League, Europa League, or Conference League, one thing is clear: they'll need more homegrown talent to meet UEFA's strict squad regulations.
Under UEFA rules, clubs can register up to 25 players on their 'A' list, but at least eight must be locally trained. That's a problem for Como, who have barely used Italian players this campaign. Their most featured homegrown talent, 32-year-old Edoardo Goldaniga, has logged just 104 minutes all season.
Club President Mirwan Suwarso has been open about the challenge. "We are always looking for more Italians," he said recently. "We bought four in our first Serie A season. The problem is that they are expensive and we can't pay them in instalments." Suwarso named some dream targets—Orsolini, Bastoni, Dimarco—but admitted they're out of reach financially. He also mentioned developing four or five young Italian prospects for the first team, along with interest in players like Venturino, Cambiaghi, and Lazio's Pellegrini.
Enter Cambiaso. According to Wednesday's reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport, Como are keen on the Juventus versatile full-back, who can cover both sides of defense. But this won't be a simple deal. Cambiaso is a key asset for the Turin giants, and prying him away will require serious negotiation.
For Como, landing a player of Cambiaso's caliber would be a statement of intent as they prepare for the biggest stage in European football. With Fabregas at the helm and European nights on the horizon, the club is clearly thinking big—and Italian.
