Holly Holm’s head coach has made it clear: if a rematch with Ronda Rousey ever comes together, history will repeat itself.
Rousey is set to return to mixed martial arts on May 16, marking her first fight in nearly a decade. While she’s calling this her final run, the chance to settle old scores could give her plenty of motivation. Her comeback headlines Netflix’s debut MMA card, where she’ll face Gina Carano in a bout that also features returns for Francis Ngannou and Nate Diaz.
It’s been nine years since Holm shocked the world by knocking out Rousey at UFC 193, ending one of the most dominant title reigns in MMA history. Now, talk of a sequel is heating up again.
Rousey is fighting under Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions, where she’s also eyeing an executive role after the Carano fight. Holm joined MVP after resuming her boxing career post-UFC, setting the stage for a potential reunion.
“That would be perfect,” Holm’s coach, Winkeljohn, told Submission Radio. “Ronda’s with MVP, Holly’s fighting for MVP. She’s fighting for the 135-pound world title at the end of May.”
“Afterwards, there’s no doubt Holly would love to fight Ronda again. Do it all over again. Do the same thing to her. I’d love to do it all over again.”
While Rousey prepares for Carano, Holm is gearing up for a familiar opponent in the boxing ring. MVP quickly organized a rematch between Holm and Han, set for May 30 in El Paso, Texas.
For fans of both fighters, the possibility of a second showdown—this time under the MVP banner—adds an intriguing layer to an already action-packed spring schedule.
