The Cincinnati Bearcats have added another key piece to their roster, landing a commitment from Georgia Tech transfer guard Akai Fleming. The 6-foot-4 freshman announced his decision, bringing a promising young talent to the program.
Fleming made an immediate impact in his first collegiate season, averaging 10.4 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game. While his shooting percentages—37.3% from the field and 32.9% from beyond the arc—show room for growth, his potential is undeniable. He closed the season on a high note, dropping 18 points and grabbing six rebounds in a hard-fought loss to Clemson in the ACC Tournament.
A native of Marietta, Georgia, Fleming was a four-star prospect coming out of high school, ranked as the No. 87 overall player in the 2025 recruiting cycle by the Rivals Industry Rankings. That pedigree makes him a valuable addition for new head coach Jerrod Calhoun.
Calhoun, who took the reins after a successful two-year stint at Utah State (where he posted a 55-15 record and back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances), has been busy reshaping the roster. Fleming is now the 11th player to join Cincinnati via the NCAA transfer portal this offseason, signaling a major rebuild under the new leadership.
For fans of the Bearcats, this move adds depth and scoring potential to the backcourt. As the roster continues to take shape, all eyes will be on how Fleming develops under Calhoun's system—and whether his shooting touch can become a consistent weapon in the Big 12.
