It's been a busy start to rookie minicamp for the Kansas City Chiefs, and new wide receivers coach Chad O'Shea is already making his mark. Known for his energetic and hands-on approach, O'Shea isn't wasting any time setting the tone for his position group.
During the media-open portion of practice, O'Shea's vocal coaching style was impossible to miss. While he may not be the next Eric Bieniemy, he's clearly demanding excellence from every player on the field. One standout moment came when he was caught on video by KC Star columnist Sam McDowell, delivering sharp, detailed instructions to the wide receivers.
"Eyes, I've got to see your eyes," O'Shea called out. "This should be a track meet to the pole and then under control. Right there. We came out of it, not under control. We shouldn't be running through the line. We should be able to catch the ball and turn. Eyes up, coming off the ball."
The target of his feedback? USC wide receiver Jaden Richardson, a rookie minicamp tryout who was told he needed to stay "under control." But O'Shea didn't stop there. "We're here to work," he added. "We're working right now, coming off the ball. Let's go!"
It's that kind of intensity that could help shape the Chiefs' receiving corps as they look to build chemistry heading into the season. And speaking of new faces, the team's top draft pick is also making headlines—though for a different reason.
The Chiefs traded up to select cornerback Mansoor Delane sixth overall in the 2026 NFL Draft, their highest pick in nearly a decade. As Delane gets his first taste of the playbook and team culture, he made a candid admission: he grew up a Baltimore Ravens fan.
"For sure. I grew up a Ravens fan. Not a Ravens fan anymore," Delane said with a smile during Friday's minicamp press conference. "But obviously, that was some battles. We always could never get past the Chiefs. So I definitely grew up knowing what y'all do."
Delane's words speak volumes about the Chiefs' dominance in recent years. The rivalry between Kansas City and Baltimore has become one of the NFL's most anticipated matchups, and now Delane—once on the other side—is ready to help the Chiefs continue that winning tradition.
With a fiery new coach in O'Shea and a talented rookie like Delane buying into the culture, the Chiefs are laying the groundwork for another strong season. For fans, it's an exciting time to gear up and show your support—because this team is built on hard work, passion, and a relentless drive to win.
