The Chargers drafted the top edge rusher available in Akheem Mesidor out of Miami as their first-round selection.
Standing at 6-foot-3, 259 pounds, Mesidor had a dominant performance with the Hurricanes in 2025. He recorded 63 tackles, 17.5 tackles for loss, 12.5 sacks, and four forced fumbles.
There wasn't a general consensus on whether the Chargers would address the offense or defense with the No. 22 overall pick, but now it's clear the organization chose to prioritize the latter.
Mesidor will join Tuli Tuipulotu and veteran Khalil Mack in the positional room, giving the defense a nice trio under defensive coordinator Chris O'Leary.

Akheem Mesidor to the Chargers. They had other needs but I’m a big fan.

Love that pick for the chargers! Mesidor is a good speed rusher to compliment Tuli once Khalil retires.
