Cleveland Browns' head coach Todd Monken revealed his stance on the team's quarterback battle heading into the 2026 NFL season.

The Cleveland Browns are gearing up for a pivotal 2026 NFL season, and all eyes are on the quarterback position. After an aggressive offseason overhaul, general manager Andrew Berry has reshaped the offense with key additions in both free agency and the draft. The Browns snagged Utah offensive tackle Spencer Fano, along with dynamic wide receivers KC Concepcion from Texas A&M and Denzel Boston from Washington, giving the unit a fresh new look.

But with a revamped roster comes the biggest question of all: Who will be under center when the season kicks off? Head coach Todd Monken addressed the growing speculation during his Friday morning appearance on 92.3 The Fan, offering a candid update on the ongoing quarterback battle.

"I would love to have the answer, but I'm not there yet," Monken admitted. "We've only been on the field for three practices. There are only so many reps to go around, and you start to target who will be the opening day starter. That can change even if someone gets two-thirds of the reps or one-third—you still have preseason games to evaluate."

While Monken remains undecided, Browns insider Mary Kay Cabot reported that veteran Deshaun Watson currently holds the edge over 2025 fifth-round pick Shedeur Sanders following voluntary workouts in April. The report has sparked plenty of debate among Browns fans, many of whom expected Sanders to make a serious push for the starting job in 2026.

Sanders showed flashes of promise during his rookie campaign, throwing for 1,400 yards and seven touchdowns in eight games. However, the 24-year-old also experienced the typical growing pains of a first-year signal-caller. As training camp heats up and preseason games approach, the battle for Cleveland's QB1 spot is just getting started—and Monken isn't ready to tip his hand just yet.
