Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Jacob Misiorowski made history Friday night, unleashing a blazing fastball that set a new standard for starting pitchers. In a dominant six-inning shutout against the New York Yankees, Misiorowski threw 10 pitches clocked at 103 mph or higher—the most ever by a starter since Statcast tracking began in 2008.
His fastest offering reached 103.6 mph, a mark he hit three times during the outing. To put that in perspective, before Friday, all starters combined had thrown just three pitches of at least 103 mph since tracking started. Misiorowski himself had one of those in his previous start.
The previous record for fastest pitch by a starter was 103.2 mph, set by Jordan Hicks on July 12, 2022. Misiorowski shattered that by throwing seven pitches at or above that speed in the first two innings alone. In fact, all 10 of his first-inning pitches were at least 102.4 mph.
The 23-year-old struck out a season-high 11 batters while allowing just two hits and two walks. He left the game with a 5-0 lead, capping his night by striking out Aaron Judge and Cody Bellinger consecutively. Of his 95 pitches, 41 exceeded 100 mph—bringing his season total to 193 such pitches in just eight starts.
This performance follows a strong outing against Washington, where Misiorowski threw 43 pitches of at least 100 mph over 5 1/3 shutout innings before leaving with a right hamstring cramp. The single-game record for pitches at 100 mph or faster is 47, held by Cincinnati's Hunter Greene since September 2022.
