Boynton Beach High School is about to give one of its own the ultimate honor. Later this month, the Florida football program will retire the jersey of its most legendary alumnus: Baltimore Ravens superstar and two-time NFL MVP Lamar Jackson.
The ceremony is set for May 15, during the Tigers' spring game against Olympic Heights. It's a fitting tribute for a player whose high school career began with a moment that still echoes in football lore—a jaw-dropping play during Boynton Beach's 2014 spring game that went viral and foreshadowed greatness.
Jackson didn't even step onto the high school football field until his junior year, but once he did, the Tigers were unstoppable. Over the 2013 and 2014 seasons, Boynton Beach posted a 21-4 record. Jackson himself put up staggering numbers: 2,263 passing yards, 1,624 rushing yards, and 53 total touchdowns. He was a raw, electrifying talent who seemed to defy physics every time he touched the ball.
Despite being ranked as the No. 313 overall prospect and the No. 26 quarterback in the 2015 recruiting class, Jackson chose Louisville. There, he became a college football icon—winning the 2016 Heisman Trophy, earning two ACC Player of the Year awards, and amassing 9,043 passing yards, 69 passing touchdowns, 4,132 rushing yards, and 50 rushing scores in just 38 games.
The NFL took notice, and in 2018, the Ravens selected Jackson with the 32nd overall pick. What followed has been nothing short of historic: two MVP awards, three All-Pro selections, over 22,600 passing yards, and 76 wins. At just 29 years old, Jackson is already building a Hall of Fame résumé.
Now, nearly 12 years after that unforgettable spring game highlight, Jackson's No. 7 jersey—worn in purple and gold—will hang permanently in the Boynton Beach gym. It's a well-deserved honor for a player who started as a local secret and became a global superstar. For fans and future Tigers, it's a reminder that greatness can begin on any field, at any time.
