Jersey kicked off their 2028 T20 World Cup qualifying campaign in style, crushing Switzerland by nine wickets in a dominant performance at the Happy Valley Ground in Cyprus.

The islanders, eager to return to the final round of European qualifying next year, made a statement from the first ball. Julius Sumerauer led the charge with a fiery spell of 4-21, dismantling the Swiss batting lineup and bowling them out for just 73 runs in 16.5 overs. Ben Ward provided excellent support, claiming 3-10, as only two Swiss batters managed to reach double figures.

Chasing a modest target, Jersey wasted no time. Opener Harrison Carlyon fell early for four in the first over, but that was the only hiccup. Patrick Gouge and Nick Greenwood took control, guiding the side home in just 7.1 overs. Greenwood, the Wellington all-rounder, smashed two sixes in his unbeaten 34 off 21 balls, while wicketkeeper Gouge contributed a quick 33 from 19 deliveries, sealing the win at 75-1.

The victory marked a triumphant return for head coach Neil MacRae, who was back in charge for the first time. Jersey now turn their attention to hosts Cyprus on Sunday, followed by matches against France and Croatia in their pool. Top the group, and they'll face the winner of the other five-team pool in the final, with a spot in the next qualifying stage on the line. For fans following the action, this is a team that looks ready to make waves.
