FC Barcelona's current administration, led by Joan Laporta, has intensified its forensic audit of financial dealings under the previous board of Josep Maria Bartomeu—and the findings are raising serious red flags. The investigation has already uncovered approximately €30 million in suspicious transactions, including inflated agent commissions tied to player transfers, which has led to Bartomeu being investigated for alleged misappropriation of funds and disloyal administration.

Now, attention has turned to one of the club's most high-profile signings: Antoine Griezmann. The French World Cup winner joined Barcelona from Atlético Madrid in 2019 after the club triggered his €120 million release clause. While the deal appeared straightforward on paper, auditors have discovered evidence pointing to a hidden commission payment that may not have been above board.

According to a report from SPORT, Barcelona has identified a payment of €1.5 million made to lawyer Gonzalez Franco as part of the Griezmann transfer. The problem? Franco is neither a licensed sports agent nor was he directly involved in the transfer negotiations. Yet, documents show that the payment was structured as 5% of Griezmann's total salary and bonuses—potentially worth up to €7 million—before being settled as a one-time payment of €1.5 million in July 2019.

The current board has reportedly uncovered an email that appears to pressure Griezmann's camp to "settle" commission payments with Franco before the final contract could be sent. This has led Laporta's team to argue that Franco's involvement was a facade, and the payment was not legitimate.
