While Delane is expected to make an immediate impact, it's Thomas who has caught the eye of CBS Sports analyst Ryan Wilson as the team's most intriguing pick.

"Mansoor Delane is the easy pick here, but so too is R Mason Thomas, who I thought had a chance to sneak into Round 1," Wilson wrote. "He's Nik Bonitto, also a former second-rounder out of Oklahoma, who is now one of the best pass rushers in the league. Thomas adds some juice off the edge for a team that desperately needs it."

The comparison to Bonitto is significant—the current Denver Broncos standout has developed into a premier pass rusher, and Wilson sees similar potential in Thomas. For a Chiefs defense that relied heavily on Chris Jones and George Karlaftis to generate pressure, adding another dynamic edge rusher was a top priority. Thomas delivered in college, posting 9.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks in his final season, and the hope is that coordinator Steve Spagnuolo can unlock that production at the NFL level.

While rookies aren't always expected to be key contributors from day one, the Chiefs are counting on Thomas to be an integral part of their defensive rotation.
