There’s a new head coach on the sidelines at The Pit, and she’s bringing a winning pedigree that has Lobo fans buzzing. On April 8th, Vice President and Director of Athletics Ryan Berryman officially announced Amy Eagan as the seventh head coach in University of New Mexico women’s basketball history. This hire marks Berryman’s first major move since being promoted from interim AD, a decision that signals a clear commitment to elevating the program.
Eagan arrives in Albuquerque with an impressive resume. She boasts a career record of 329–191, a solid .633 winning percentage, and a 189–96 mark in conference play (.663). But what really stands out is her recent dominance: over the past seven seasons, her teams have gone 165–57 (.743) overall and a remarkable 104–30 (.776) in league competition. Add in six NCAA Tournament appearances and six conference championships, and it’s clear this is a coach who knows how to win.
“We were thrilled to welcome Coach Eagan to New Mexico,” Berryman said. “She brought a long history of success, championships, and strong leadership of young women. We were excited to begin the Coach Eagan era of Lobo women’s basketball.”
Eagan takes over from Mike Bradbury, whose 10-year tenure ended with a contract buyout. The timing feels right for a fresh start, and Eagan is ready to embrace the challenge. She steps into a program with passionate fans and a rich tradition, and she’s already setting the bar high.
“It’s such an honor to be named the head coach at The University of New Mexico,” Eagan said. “I want to thank Ryan Berryman and Amy Beggin for their belief in me and for this tremendous opportunity. I’m excited to be a part of a program with such a rich history and a passionate fan base. We aim to win Mountain West Championships and reach the NCAA Tournament with outstanding young women of character and community, and those goals will guide our program.”
With over 300 career wins and a reputation for building championship cultures, Eagan is poised to make an immediate impact. Lobo fans, get ready—this is a new chapter, and it’s written in the colors of victory.
