The Alabama Crimson Tide softball team is making waves as they head into the SEC Tournament and beyond, with two of their own earning top honors from the USA TODAY Sports Network's All-SEC team. Junior pitcher Jocelyn Briski has been named SEC Pitcher of the Year, while head coach Patrick Murphy takes home SEC Coach of the Year.
Briski has been nothing short of dominant this season, posting a stellar 20-2 record with a 1.46 ERA and 167 strikeouts over 129⅔ innings. Her performance has also earned her a spot as a top-25 finalist for the USA Softball Player of the Year award, highlighting her as one of the nation's elite pitchers.
Under Murphy's leadership, the Crimson Tide have soared to a 47-6 overall record and a 19-5 mark in conference play. Murphy made history earlier this season, becoming the first coach in SEC history to reach 500 conference wins after a 4-0 shutout over Auburn on April 11. It's a testament to his consistency and ability to build championship-caliber teams year after year.
Alabama enters the SEC Tournament as the No. 2 seed, riding high after sweeping No. 21 South Carolina in the regular-season finale. Thanks to a two-round bye, the Crimson Tide will make their tournament debut in the quarterfinals, where they'll face the winner of Game 5—a matchup between No. 7 seed Arkansas and the winner of Game 2 (Mississippi State vs. Kentucky).
This recognition is a well-deserved cap to a remarkable regular season for Alabama softball. As the postseason heats up, all eyes will be on Briski and Murphy to see if they can lead the Crimson Tide to even greater heights.
