There is only one top prospect at the NBA combine who made it known that he expects to be the No. 1 overall pick — AJ Dybantsa.

The NBA draft combine is often a stage for measured words and cautious optimism, but AJ Dybantsa isn't here for that. As the top prospects filed through Chicago this week, one voice stood out from the crowd—and it belonged to the player who already knows where he belongs: at No. 1.

"It's definitely a goal of mine," Dybantsa said without hesitation. "I've been number one in the ranking since what, ninth grade? And I ain't dropped. So, I'm not planning on dropping in the draft."

While other elite prospects took a more relaxed approach—North Carolina's Caleb Wilson shrugged off draft position, saying he'd be happy going anywhere from No. 1 to No. 10 as long as the team believes in him—Dybantsa brought a different energy. The BYU product didn't just talk like a top pick; he dressed like one too. While most combine attendees showed up in sweats and hoodies, Dybantsa stepped into team interviews in a sharp suit and tie.

"I've never had a job before," he explained. "I was 13 when I started taking basketball serious. This is like my first job interview. So, my dad was like, 'This is your job interview. So, come professional, come suited.'"

That blend of confidence and polish is what sets Dybantsa apart in a draft class that experts have been hyping for years as potentially one of the deepest in recent memory. Kansas standout Darryn Peterson echoed that excitement, noting that the strength of the 2026 class makes every pick meaningful—but Dybantsa isn't interested in sharing the spotlight.

"I'm super versatile as a player," Dybantsa said. "I can guard one through four, play one through four." That self-belief isn't just talk—it's backed by a relentless work ethic and a desire to elevate everyone around him. And for the team lucky enough to land the No. 1 pick, Dybantsa promises they'll get a star that fans will flock to see.

In a draft class full of talent, Dybantsa's unapologetic confidence might just be his greatest asset. After all, when you've been on top since ninth grade, why stop now?
