A Look Back at Purdue Basketball: Aaron Fine

Purdue’s lone transfer heads to Muncie for a large role.

Aaron Fine, the lone Boilermaker to enter the transfer portal this offseason, is trading West Lafayette for Muncie. The former Purdue walk-on and Noblesville standout is heading to Ball State, where he’s poised to take on a much larger role with the Cardinals.

Fine’s journey to Purdue was anything but typical. As a high school star at Noblesville, he was a 1,000-point scorer and earned Indiana All-Star honors—hardly the resume of a traditional walk-on. But he chose to bet on himself, first redshirting, then appearing in just nine games this past season. With limited playing time in a deep Boilermaker backcourt, Fine decided a fresh start was the best move.

Enter Ball State. Under a new coaching staff, the Cardinals are in rebuild mode, and Fine brings exactly the kind of grit and defensive intensity they need. Purdue coaches frequently praised how he challenged their veteran guards in practice, using his relentless pressure to elevate the entire team. Now, he’ll have the chance to turn that practice court tenacity into game-changing performances.

With three years of eligibility remaining, Fine has a golden opportunity. He’s moving to a program where he can log meaningful minutes, potentially become a go-to player, and prove that his high school pedigree translates to the college stage. For a player who has always bet on himself, this is the perfect next chapter.
