When a club like Ajax comes calling, it's bound to turn heads—but Liverpool boss Arne Slot isn't one to be easily swayed. According to prominent Dutch journalist Mike Verweij, the Amsterdam giants recently made an enquiry about the Reds' head coach. However, Slot has made it clear: he's not interested in leaving Anfield for Ajax at this stage of his career.
"I was told once again that they also enquired about Arne Slot," Verweij revealed on the De Telegraaf Kick-off podcast. "Slot is still very firmly in the saddle; he is simply continuing at Liverpool. I also understood that Arne Slot is not very keen to go to Ajax at this point in his career."
It's been a challenging second season for the 47-year-old at Liverpool, following his stunning Premier League title win in his debut campaign. Despite the dip in form, FSG is expected to back Slot heading into next season—and it seems the Eredivisie's most decorated club hasn't been put off by the Reds' recent struggles.
Ajax is currently searching for a permanent boss after interim coach Oscar Garcia took the reins. Slot's name emerged as a candidate, but two major factors explain his reluctance. First, his deep ties to Feyenoord—Ajax's fiercest rivals—make a switch to Amsterdam a tough sell. Second, the club's quick trigger finger with former boss John Heitinga, who lasted just five months after leaving Liverpool, is a cautionary tale Slot won't soon forget.
After all, if the 47-year-old's results at Anfield this season had been posted in Amsterdam, the Johan Cruyff Arena hierarchy might have already shown him the door. For now, Slot remains fully focused on the Reds—and that's exactly where he plans to stay.
