Sonia Bompastor is confident her Chelsea side will face a fully focused Manchester City in Sunday's Adobe Women's FA Cup semi-final at Stamford Bridge, despite City's recent Barclays Women's Super League title celebrations.
The Cityzens clinched the league championship just days before this high-stakes clash, but Bompastor isn't buying into any talk of distraction. "I hope they party tonight, tomorrow, and Saturday," she joked during her pre-match press conference. "But they're professionals. They know this is a huge game with a trophy on the line, and I'm sure they'll be ready."
For Chelsea, this semi-final represents more than just a shot at silverware—it's a chance to prove their mettle after falling short in both the domestic league and European competition this season. "It's an opportunity to show our quality against another top team," Bompastor said. "When you have two sides packed with talent, these are the games you live for as a player or manager."
Playing at the iconic Stamford Bridge adds another layer of excitement. "With our fans behind us, if we can deliver a strong performance and a good result, it will be special," she added. "The FA Cup is one of our main goals this season, and reaching another final would mean everything."
While a League Cup and FA Cup double wouldn't erase the sting of missing out on the biggest prizes, Bompastor believes it would inject crucial momentum into her squad. "We want to win as many trophies as possible, even when we're not at our best," she explained. "Being in this position—fighting for silverware—builds confidence and puts us in a better place moving forward."
With both teams hungry for glory, Sunday's semi-final promises to be a showdown worth watching.
