The Dallas Cowboys have been busy reshaping their defense this 2026 offseason, but the work isn't quite finished. While defensive coordinator Christian Parker could use a seasoned edge-rush specialist to bolster the pass rush, one of the top available options has just signed elsewhere.

Veteran pass rusher Dante Fowler has agreed to a one-year deal with the Seattle Seahawks worth up to $5 million, leaving the Cowboys with one less weapon to pressure the quarterback. This marks the end of Fowler's time in Dallas, where he had two separate stints—including last season, when he recorded three sacks and 10 quarterback hits.

That production came after a standout 10.5-sack campaign with the Washington Commanders in 2024 under Dan Quinn. Fowler was the Cowboys' most expensive free-agent signing in 2025, but he struggled to replicate that pressure under new defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus.

Fowler has been a true journeyman, earning over $74 million across his career while playing for five teams since being selected third overall in the 2015 NFL Draft. The 31-year-old has amassed 58.5 career sacks, including two double-digit sack seasons. During his three years in Dallas, he totaled 13 sacks, showing flashes of the disruptive talent that made him a top pick.

Though his career has had its ups and downs, Fowler was considered one of the best remaining pass-rush specialists on the market. Instead of returning to the Cowboys for a fourth season, he's heading to Seattle to reunite with his former defensive line coach and current Seahawks defensive coordinator Aden Durde, as well as former Dallas defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence.

So where does this leave the Cowboys? The remaining veteran edge-rush options include Joey Bosa, Cameron Jordan, Haason Reddick, Von Miller, and last year's sack leader Jadeveon Clowney. But it's worth noting that Dallas and Parker might be comfortable with the younger pass rushers already on the roster. The 2026 offseason and draft have brought in new talent, so there's no reason to hit the panic button just yet.
