As the Denver Broncos gear up for their rookie minicamp from May 8-10, it's not just the fresh-faced draft picks and undrafted free agents getting a shot. The team has also invited four veteran players to try out, adding some seasoned experience to the mix.
Leading the veteran group is quarterback Nathan Peterman, a 32-year-old journeyman who has suited up for five NFL teams. With five career starts under his belt, Peterman has completed 53.1% of his passes for 712 yards, tossing four touchdowns but also 13 interceptions. While his stats might not jump off the page, his wealth of experience could provide valuable depth and mentorship in the quarterback room.
On the offensive side, the Broncos are also taking a look at wide receiver Michael Woods. Standing at 6-1 and 204 pounds, the 26-year-old was a sixth-round pick by the Cleveland Browns in 2022 out of Oklahoma. Woods worked out for Denver last September and brings a modest NFL résumé with 12 receptions for 110 yards, including a three-catch, 43-yard performance against the Broncos in 2024. His familiarity with the team could give him an edge in earning a spot.
Defensively, the Broncos are evaluating two players looking to reignite their careers. Defensive end Isaiah Thomas, 27, checks in at 6-5 and 266 pounds. A seventh-round pick out of Oklahoma in 2022, Thomas has appeared in 12 career games, tallying 12 tackles, two forced fumbles, and one sack. Meanwhile, safety Brandon Hill, 25, stands 5-11 and weighs 195 pounds. Drafted by the Houston Texans in the seventh round of the 2023 draft out of Pitt, Hill has seen action in just two regular-season games but could bring athleticism to the secondary.
With the Broncos already hosting seven drafted rookies, 13 undrafted free agents, and 33 rookie tryout players, these veteran additions add an intriguing layer to the minicamp. It's a chance for these players to prove they still have what it takes to compete at the highest level, and for Denver, it's an opportunity to bolster their roster with proven talent.
