The quarterback carousel in South Georgia keeps spinning, and another dynamic playmaker is on the move. Class of 2027 quarterback Khi Mitchell has officially transferred from Jonesboro (Ga.) Mount Zion to Moultrie (Ga.) Colquitt County, adding even more firepower to an already talented roster.
Mitchell confirmed the move to Rivals, noting that while the news just became public, he has actually been with the Packers since February. The dual-threat signal-caller made an immediate impact during his three seasons at Mt. Zion, earning first-team All-Region honors and leading the Bulldogs to the GHSA postseason. His numbers from last season alone tell the story: 1,989 passing yards, 17 touchdowns through the air, plus 900 rushing yards and 12 more scores on the ground. That kind of versatility is exactly what college recruiters love to see.
But the Packers' quarterback room is about to get crowded. Colquitt County returns 2028 standout Cohen Lawson, who had a stellar first season as the starter in 2025. Lawson completed 144 of 245 passes for 2,012 yards and 19 touchdowns, helping the team finish with a 9-3 record and a No. 17 ranking in the final Georgia 2025 High School Football Massey Rankings. The competition between Mitchell and Lawson will be one of the most intriguing storylines to watch during fall camp.
Colquitt County High School, located in Norman Park, Georgia, has long been a powerhouse in Georgia high school football. Known for its strong academics and competitive athletics, the school consistently produces college-ready athletes who excel on and off the field. The Packers' tradition of success and community support makes this an ideal landing spot for a rising star like Mitchell.
For Georgia high school football fans, staying updated on scores and transfers across the Peach State has never been easier. Whether you're tracking future stars or just love the game, the 2026 season is shaping up to be one for the books—and Mitchell's move to Colquitt County is just the beginning.
