As Chelsea prepare for a crucial Premier League showdown at Anfield this Saturday, interim head coach Calum McFarlane has delivered a mixed bag of injury updates that could shape the Blues' lineup against Liverpool.

The visitors arrive on Merseyside desperate to reverse a dismal run of six consecutive top-flight defeats, which has seen them slip to ninth in the table. With European qualification hanging in the balance—though an FA Cup final appearance offers an alternative route—every point matters for the struggling London side.

McFarlane's press conference on Thursday brought some encouraging news for Chelsea fans. "We've got a few lads returning," he confirmed, highlighting positive progress for defenders Levi Colwill and Reece James. "Levi's trained another full week again, Reece as well. They both trained fully today, so we're hopeful."

However, the injury picture isn't all rosy. The 40-year-old interim boss delivered sobering updates on three key players. Goalkeeper Robert Sanchez has been ruled out entirely after sustaining an injury in the recent defeat to Nottingham Forest. Meanwhile, attackers Pedro Neto and Alejandro Garnacho are both carrying knocks and considered "unlikely" to feature.

The Blues will also be without Jesse Derry, who suffered a frightening head injury during Monday's loss to Forest, while Jamie Gittens and Estevao remain on the sidelines as they continue their recovery from longer-term issues.

For Liverpool, the injury concerns are equally pressing. Mohamed Salah, Alisson Becker, and Alexander Isak all missed training on Wednesday, while defenders Ibrahima Konate and Florian Wirtz were forced to work away from the main group at Kirkby. With both sides nursing significant absences, Saturday's clash promises to be a test of squad depth as much as tactical nous.
