The Miami Dolphins kicked off their rookie minicamp this weekend, bringing a fresh wave of talent to the practice field. Among the 11 undrafted free agents signed is a player who could have been a Day 2 pick in the 2026 NFL draft—if not for an injury concern.
Linebacker Mason Reiger, who transferred from Louisville to Wisconsin for his final season, turned heads at the East-West Shrine Bowl with a dominant performance, earning MVP honors after recording three sacks. Eric Galko, director of football operations for the Shrine Bowl, told the Miami Herald that Reiger carried "third-, fourth-, fifth-round grades" but was passed over due to medical issues. "Teams didn't feel comfortable," Galko said, but he added, "The Dolphins got third-, fourth-round value."
Standing at 6-foot-5, Reiger showcased his pass-rushing chops in 11 starts for the Badgers last season, notching five sacks after missing the 2024 campaign. His size and athleticism make him a natural fit for Miami's edge-rushing needs, and he's already being pegged as the UDFA most likely to earn a roster spot out of camp.
For a Dolphins team searching for depth off the edge, Reiger represents a low-risk, high-reward addition. If he can stay healthy, this undrafted gem might just prove that sometimes the best value comes after the draft.
