Mark Pope and the Kentucky Wildcats have secured a major backcourt addition for the 2026-27 season, landing a commitment from standout transfer guard Zoom Diallo. Diallo, who spent his first two collegiate seasons with the Washington Huskies, announced his decision to join Big Blue Nation via his personal Instagram account.
This move marks a significant first splash in the transfer portal for Coach Pope this offseason. The Wildcats moved quickly once the portal opened, establishing immediate contact with Diallo and hosting him for an official visit to Lexington on April 10-11. The courtship proved successful, culminating in his commitment just days later.
Diallo arrives in Lexington with proven production and valuable experience. A key starter for Washington, he appeared in all 65 games over two seasons, starting 52. He showed impressive development between his freshman and sophomore campaigns, elevating his averages from 11.1 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game to a robust 15.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 4.5 assists last season.
His efficiency is a major asset; he shot an impressive 48.9% from the field in 2025-26, ranking among the top 10 in the Big Ten in both assists per game and field goal percentage. This combination of scoring, playmaking, and efficient shooting makes him a perfect fit for Pope's system and a player who can immediately impact the SEC.
Interestingly, this commitment brings Diallo's journey full circle. Kentucky, under former coach John Calipari, showed interest in him during his high school days as a consensus four-star recruit in the 2024 class. While an offer never materialized then, leading him to Washington, the connection has now been realized under the new coaching regime, giving Diallo his long-awaited chance to suit up for the Wildcats.
