The PGA Championship is known for testing the world's best golfers, and the 2026 edition at Aronimink Golf Club near Philadelphia is proving to be a true gauntlet. While the tournament doesn't always carry the same reputation for brutality as the U.S. Open, this year's course is giving players fits with its demanding layout.

Navigating those challenges with remarkable poise is 21-year-old Aldrich Potgieter, who is making his PGA Championship debut. The young South African has looked anything but overwhelmed while playing alongside seasoned veterans, holding his own through the first two rounds.

If Potgieter can maintain his composure and clinch the Wanamaker Trophy, he would etch his name into the record books as one of the youngest champions in the event's storied history. Here's where he would rank among the legends.

The Youngest PGA Championship Winners of All Time

Gene Sarazen remains the gold standard for youthful excellence, winning the PGA Championship in 1922 at just 20 years old. He backed it up by winning again the following year at 21, placing himself on this list twice. Only Tom Creavy (1931) joins Sarazen as winners under the age of 21.

If Potgieter secures the win in 2026, he would become the fourth-youngest champion in PGA Championship history, trailing only Sarazen's two victories and Creavy's one. At just past 21 years and eight months old, Potgieter would edge close to Sarazen's mark of 21 years and seven months for his second win.

To put that in perspective, legends like Rory McIlroy, Jack Nicklaus, and Tiger Woods all won their first PGA Championship at age 23. A victory at 21 would place Potgieter in remarkably rare company, ahead of even these all-time greats.

Potgieter, who won his first PGA Tour event in 2025, won't turn 22 until September 13. This is only his fifth major championship appearance, making a potential victory even more impressive.
