Philadelphia is a city that lives and breathes playoff energy. With the Phillies, Eagles, and Sixers consistently making deep postseason runs in recent years, the expectation for success has become the norm. For a while, one team was notably absent from that conversation: the Philadelphia Flyers.
That narrative has officially been rewritten. For the first time since 2020, the Flyers have punched their ticket to the Stanley Cup playoffs. When the series against the Pittsburgh Penguins shifts to Philadelphia for Game 3, it will mark the city's first taste of playoff hockey on home ice since 2018. The buzz is back, and it's electric.
This renewed excitement isn't just in the stands; it's coursing through the locker room. Veteran forward Travis Konecny, one of the few players remaining from the 2020 playoff squad, has watched Philadelphia's other teams captivate the city. Now, he's thrilled to finally be at the center of that storm.
“I’ve been through all the Super Bowls and World Series stuff,” Konecny said. “I’ve seen all this playoff excitement around, the basketball team too. You want to be part of it. Every single year, you see it.”
While Konecny knows firsthand the deafening roar of a Philly playoff crowd, for many of his teammates, this will be a brand-new experience. Defenseman Jamie Drysdale has only heard the legends.
“I only heard great things about the Philly fans and playoff hockey,” Drysdale shared. “Everyone just raved about how crazy it gets and how awesome it is to play in front of that crowd. I’ve seen snippets in regular-season games of how loud they get. So I can’t wait to see them in the playoffs.”
The anticipation has spread throughout the entire organization, reaching even the newer players who began the season with the AHL's Lehigh Valley Phantoms. Forward Denv… [the excitement is universal]. This playoff berth isn't just a milestone; it's a reawakening of Flyers hockey in a city that's been waiting to unleash its full-throated support. The orange and black are back where they belong, and Philadelphia is ready to roar.
