Yorkshire turned the tide with a gritty fightback on day two of their County Championship clash against Somerset at Taunton, proving that cricket is a game of momentum shifts.

After a tough first day, the visitors came out firing, led by seamer Jack White, who delivered a stellar performance with figures of 4-41 from 16 overs. Somerset, who looked comfortable at 201-4, suffered a dramatic collapse, losing their last seven wickets for just 73 runs in 28 overs to be bowled out for 274. This left them with a first-innings lead of 112, a far cry from what could have been a commanding advantage.

The morning belonged to Yorkshire, who bowled and fielded with renewed intensity. White struck twice in three overs without conceding a run, removing Josh Thomas—who was unable to add to his overnight 136—and teenager Thomas Rew in quick succession. Thomas edged to wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow, while Rew steered a defensive edge to Finlay Bean at third slip.

Tom Abell, who had played a supporting role in a 166-run fourth-wicket stand, stepped up to craft a patient 50 from 140 balls, featuring a six and four boundaries. However, his resistance was ended by George Hill, who induced a nick to Joe Root at first slip with the score at 223-6. Logan van Beek then joined the party, nipping one back off the seam to bowl Craig Overton and accelerating Somerset's slide.

Yorkshire openers Adam Lyth and Finlay Bean navigated 4.3 overs before rain intervened, washing out 62.3 overs for the day. They resume their second innings at 13 without loss, trailing by 99 runs. With the weather playing a significant role, Yorkshire's chances of saving the match have been materially enhanced, setting the stage for a compelling final two days.
