The Chennai Super Kings are refusing to let their IPL 2026 dreams fade away. On Tuesday night at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, CSK delivered a masterclass in controlled cricket, cruising to an emphatic eight-wicket victory over the Delhi Capitals to keep their playoff hopes very much alive.
It was a night where every department clicked for the Yellow Army. After winning the toss and opting to bat first, Delhi found themselves in a deep hole early on, stumbling to 69 for 5. The CSK bowling unit was simply relentless, reading the tricky surface to perfection. Spinner Noor Ahmad was the pick of the attack with figures of 2/22, while Akeal Hosein (1/19) provided excellent support. The pace trio of Mukesh Choudhary, Gurjapneet Singh, and Jamie Overton each chipped in with a wicket, ensuring DC never found any rhythm.
A brief fightback came from Tristan Stubbs (38) and impact substitute Sameer Rizvi (40 off 24), who added 65 runs for the sixth wicket. But the damage had already been done, and Delhi could only manage a modest 155 for 7.
In response, CSK lost opener Ruturaj Gaikwad early to a fired-up Lungi Ngidi, who was returning from a concussion layoff. But that was where the drama ended for the Capitals. Enter Sanju Samson, who played an innings of pure class and composure. The wicketkeeper-batter remained unbeaten on 87 off just 52 balls, blending caution with calculated aggression to anchor the chase.
Samson found a perfect partner in Kartik Sharma (41), and together they stitched a match-winning 114-run partnership that guided Chennai home with 15 balls to spare. It was a chase that oozed confidence and control.
"More than grateful to have Sanju in the side… bowling is something which wins you tournaments," said Gaikwad after the match, highlighting the team's balanced performance.
The win takes CSK to their fifth victory in ten matches, keeping them firmly in the playoff conversation. For Delhi, however, this sixth defeat of the season has left their campaign hanging by a thread. "We cannot afford any mistakes now," admitted a candid Axar Patel.
With the league stage entering its decisive phase, every match now feels like a knockout. And if Tuesday night was any indication, the Super Kings are peaking at just the right time.
