The New York Yankees are dominating the Majors this season, but even the best teams have room for improvement—and for the Bronx Bombers, that room is in the bullpen.

While the starting rotation has been arguably the best in baseball, with Carlos Rodón back from the injured list and Gerrit Cole nearing the end of his rehab assignment, the relief corps could use a jolt of electricity. Enter Jhoan Duran, the Philadelphia Phillies' flame-throwing closer, who has been floated as a potential trade target for the Yankees.

FanSided's Chris Landers recently suggested that if the Phillies can't turn their season around before the trade deadline, they might look to sell. And Duran, with his triple-digit fastball and devastating "splinker," would be their most intriguing chip. "He's admittedly awesome, but he's also a reliever, and he just so happens to be the biggest trade chip that the Phillies have to play," Landers wrote. "We know that the Yankees were interested in prying the righty from the Twins before Philly swooped in at last year's deadline, and they're very much in need of some more high-octane stuff at the back of their bullpen."

New York was indeed linked to Duran last summer, but instead landed David Bednar from the Pittsburgh Pirates—a move that has paid off handsomely. Bednar has been a steady force, but adding Duran's velocity would create a dynamic one-two punch for manager Aaron Boone. Imagine shortening games to seven innings with a back end featuring Bednar's precision and Duran's raw power. It's a formula built for October.

In a postseason where every edge matters, the Yankees could use that extra gear. And for a team already firing on all cylinders, a high-octane closer might be the missing piece to bring another championship back to the Bronx.
